Tona, as we call him in the lab. He has been working since 2017-2020. He participated in several project and helped in collecting parasites from various hosts including marine, brackish and freshwater fishes, as well aquatic birds from Mexico. In the lab Tona, has been working very well extracting genomic DNA and performing the PCR amplifications from the helminths. Tona described the phylogeoghapic pattern of Saccocoelioides lamothei, a parasite of brackish and freshwater fishes from Pacific coasts from Mexico and Middle America in his undergraduate thesis. During this time, Tona also recognized and described a new species of the genus Lyperosomum from the intestine of the golden-fronted woodpecker (Melanerpes aurifrons) from northern Mexico. Tona just started the Master program at the Posgrado en Ciencias Biológicas, UNAM. He is working with the adult parasites of fish eating birds. During his studied, Tona recognized several new species of the genus Posthodiplostoum combining morphological, ecological and molecular data.
