Research  Interests:

Research in my laboratory is focused on the use of phylogenetic hypotheses for studying helminths such as: acanthocephalans, digeneas and tapeworm, parasites of marine, brackish freshwater fishes, turtles and aquatic birds distributed in the Nearctic and Neotropical regions from Mexico and some countries as: Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Costa Rica from Middle America. Much of our studies involve the sequencing of nuclear and mitochondrial DNA genes. The phylogenies build with molecular markers are used as a framework to understand the host-parasites associations and biodiversity of the helminths. The research involves a mixture of morphological and molecular techniques
