Miriam joined the lab during the summer of 2006, when she started the Ph. D program. Miriam was an excellent student, very professional, in a few months Miriam learned the molecular techniques and was fundamental to start new projects. Miriam started with her Ph. D project with free-living organisms known as rotifers. Miriam collected rotifers in several freshwater bodies from Mexico and learned to culture the rotifers in the laboratory. She made a wonderful job with the rotifers. At the same time Miriam participated in other project, where she combined morphological and molecular techniques to understand the evolution of the genus Neoechinorhynchus. Miriam participated in several field trips to Gulf of Mexico and Pacific Ocean collecting diverse groups of helminths associates to aquatic birds. Miriam published several papers during her stay in the laboratory. In the spring of the 2012, Miriam defended her Ph. D thesis. Miriam performed a postdoctoral stay with the Dr. René Cerritos. Currently, Miriam is an independent and very successful researcher from the Instituto Nacional de Pediatría.
